We're Number One!

Someone has to say it. It might as well be me.

You know the people who camped out at 3 am to watch a bunch of tall dudes drive by, oops, sorry, I mean the "Laker's Parade" at 11 o'clock on a Monday morning?

They are not the most productive members of society.

Also, your stupid parade (really? our standards are this low?) inconvenienced thousands of people who were trying to get to work.  You know, the people with jobs? The ones who pay the taxes that keep your city limping along?

Why do I hear crickets?

Well, Mustard, you are overlooking the very serious needs of the Lakers.

Oh sure, they’re always signing autographs for adoring fans, and getting preferential treatment at restaurants and stores, and doing stupid women by the carload and pulling down huge incomes.

    But…

they have very fragile emotional needs. Needs that compel them to throw themselves a parade, on a workday, with maxim potential to disrupt traffic and cause people to miss work, “So the fans can show their support” (quote from the Lakers website).

Yes, Mustard, it’s true. Without today’s support, they have nothing. Anybody can throw themselves a parade on a weekend.

Note to fans that missed work to attend:

It’s usually not a good career move to prove to your employer everything works fine without you.

And to the unemployed that hocked their Play Stations for gas money to get there, you’ll regret it by Wednesday.

  2. Joseph, it is with good reason that you have reached the rank of Midcommenter.

I failed to take into account the fragile egos of the millionaire giants. Thank you for setting me straight.

By the way, what are the odds that a good percentage of the revelers have their bills paid courtesy of the tax payers?

    Thank you, Mustard.

I would agree, a very good percentage.

Taxpayers also made it possible for them to buy their Lakers hats and shirts and provided them with video cell phones to document the party.

And the more ambitious had their night out on the town burning cars, rioting, blocking traffic etc paid for by taxpayers.

So it's true for some people that Utopia is indeed possible.
